I've noticed that many teachers in Richmond have a document camera from Smart Technologies. I was just looking at some of their features online ... and it does a lot more than a normal document camera.
You can get 3D shapes from Google Sketchup's 3D Library or make them yourself. Kids can rotate the images WITH THEIR OWN HANDS!?!? It's so cool!
Why A Teacher Might Care:
The first thing that came to my mind were SOLs 8.9, where the student has to construct 3D models given the top, bottom or side views and then SOL 8.7, investigating and calculating the volume of prisms, cones, cylinders, etc. For both SOLs, it would be nice to have the 3d shape on the screen so that students could rotate the shape and see it from different angles.
- Want a digital camera for your classroom? It can do that
- Want a video camera in your classroom? It can do that. (I couldn't find a good video-tutorial, ironically).
- BUT THE COOLEST THING IT DOES!?!?! Manipulation of 3D Shapes, yep it can do that.
